The Do's + Don'ts of Baby Nursery Rugs

Sponsored with love by Lorena Canals

This past weekend we went to California Adventure and Baxter didn't make it all day long without peeing in the house before we made it home. This never happens so was quite the fun surprise when we got home and in that moment, I wished he had peed all over our brand new Lorena Canals rug instead of the old rug in Ava's room. And I'll tell you why...

When I was designing Ava's nursery months before she was born, the rug was the last item on my list to finish up her room. Our entire house is hardwood so a rug was an absolute must to make her room comfy, cozy and oh-so-cute. Moms are always talking about the do's and the don'ts of cribs and dressers and decor and toys but I never heard anyone talk about rugs. And so, I figured any rug would do as long as it matched. I found the perfect grey and white rug from Target, picked it up and her nursery was complete.

Little did I know, I should've done my rug research before making that purchase...

As you all know, we have a four year old Boxer pup and with that, comes dirt. By the time Ava was a couple of months old, the rug was not looking so white anymore. It was more of an off white and grey.

Then when Ava was about six months old, Baxter got a hold of a diaper and shredded it to pieces on that rug. We took it to the cleaners and they told us there was nothing they could do to help and that they would have to ship it out to get cleaned...at a very high price point.

Fast forward to this past weekend, the weekend I wish Baxter had peed all over our brand new Lorena Canals rug and I'll tell you why.

Lorena Canals rugs are machine washable. That's right, I can literally take the rug, throw it in my own washing machine in the comfort of my own home and clean it. Now that's pretty amazing, if you ask me. If only more moms were talking about the do's and the don'ts of purchasing a rug for a nursery, it would've saved me a whole lot of trouble. And that's why I'm here to tell you that this machine washable thing is an absolute MUST.

If only Baxter had peed on that rug instead of Ava's, it would've been cleaned in a matter of hours, all set to go back into the nursery. You'dbetter bet that a Lorena Canals rug is now going to replace her old one! They make rugs for adult spaces and they have gorgeous nursery rugs too. All natural dyes, handmade in India, eco and contain no VOCs like most carpeting and rugs, and the proceeds even support the Sakula project, providing schools for children in India. It's doesn't get better than all of that -- Agree?
